Health and Safety Policy

Who this policy refers to

All staff

In accordance with The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), all employees have a duty to take reasonable care to avoid injury to themselves and others by their work activities and must co-operate with the company, their customers and others in meeting the statutory requirements of the Act. The Health & Safety at Work Act applies to everyone at work giving responsibilities to both employers and employees. Breaches of the Act may be a criminal offence and lead to prosecution.


Working Practices

  • Take reasonable care of their own Health and Safety at work
  • Co-operate with any actions their employer and customers might take to comply with the law
  • Avoid placing other people at risk
  • Report any work situation, which might represent a serious or imminent danger
  • You must not operate any item of equipment unless trained and authorized to do so
  • You must not remove any guarding from equipment used or deviate from your authorized usage of equipment
  • You must report immediately any equipment defect and never attempt repair
  • You must undertake all duties as instructed and never deviate

Hazard / Warning Signs and Notices

  • You must comply with all hazard/warning signs & notices displayed on the premises

Working conditions / Environment

  • You must make proper use of all equipment and facilities provided to control working conditions/environment
  • You must ensure you keep your work areas clear/tidy

Protective clothing and Equipment

  • You must wear protective equipment where required
  • You must never obstruct any fire escape route, fire equipment or doors

Accidents and Reporting

  • You must see the first-aider for any injury you may receive, irrespective of how minor, and ensure details are entered into the accident book
  • You must report any incident in which damage is caused to property
  • You must report any near misses that could have potentially caused a different outcome or injury should an individual have acted differently

Health

  • You must report any medical condition that could affect the safety of yourself or other
  • You must not become involved with horseplay, or practical jokes
  • You must follow all rules pertaining to no smoking areas
