Job Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Driver / Trainer to join their team based at London Gateway. This dual-role position combines professional driving duties with the training, mentoring, and development of drivers across the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting safe, compliant, and efficient driving practices while supporting the ongoing development of both new and existing drivers.
The Driver / Trainer will ensure all drivers operate in accordance with company policies, customer requirements, and current transport legislation, helping ATL Haulage maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance, and customer service.
Driver Training & Development
Deliver induction training to new drivers.
Conduct driver assessments, evaluations, and on-road coaching sessions.
Provide refresher training on company procedures, safe driving practices, and legislative updates.
Identify training needs and develop action plans to improve driver performance and compliance.
Support drivers in meeting customer-specific site requirements and operational standards.
Maintain accurate records of training, assessments, and competency reviews.
Promote a positive safety culture throughout the business.
Compliance & Health & Safety
Ensure drivers operate in accordance with DVSA regulations, Working Time Directive, and Drivers’ Hours legislation.
Monitor and promote compliance with vehicle walkaround checks and defect reporting procedures.
Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, providing recommendations and corrective training where required.
Keep up to date with changes in transport legislation and industry best practice.
Support the business in maintaining compliance with Operator Licence obligations.
Driving Duties
Undertake driving assignments when required to support operational demands.
Ensure vehicles are operated safely, professionally, and efficiently.
Deliver excellent customer service at all times.
Complete all relevant transport documentation accurately and promptly.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and customer site requirements.
Operational Support
Work closely with the Transport Team to support driver performance and fleet efficiency.
Assist with driver recruitment assessments and interviews.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the transport operation.
Participate in audits and compliance reviews when required.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Valid Class 1 (C+E) Driving Licence.
Current Driver CPC Qualification.
Digital Tachograph Card.
Proven experience within a transport, logistics, or haulage environment.
Strong knowledge of Drivers’ Hours, Tachograph Regulations, and Working Time Directive.
Excellent communication, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Ability to deliver training effectively to individuals and groups.
Strong administration and record-keeping skills.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
