Salary: £40,000+ per annum (dependent on experience)
About the Role:
A well-established and growing transport and logistics business is seeking an Operations Manager to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport professional with container routing experience who is looking to take the next step in their career.
The successful candidate will initially oversee a small operations team while playing a key role in the day-to-day planning and optimisation of vehicle movements. As the business continues to grow, this position offers genuine progression opportunities, including responsibility for expanding and leading a larger operations team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and route container vehicles efficiently to maximise operational performance
• Produce and manage daily traffic sheets to optimise revenue and job volume
• Coordinate job allocations, swaps, and number control activities
• Work closely with operational staff to ensure the smooth delivery of transport services
• Manage and support a small team of operations staff initially
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, utilisation, and profitability
• Contribute to the growth and development of the operations function
• Assist with future recruitment, training, and management of additional team members as the business expands
• Maintain high standards of customer service and operational excellence
Requirements:
Essential:
• Previous experience routing container vehicles within a transport or logistics environment
• Strong understanding of transport planning and traffic management
• Ability to maximise vehicle utilisation and operational efficiency
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Desirable:
• Previous supervisory or management experience is beneficial but not essential
• Experience developing processes and supporting business growth

Working Hours:
• 40 hours a week with a 1-hour lunch break
• Participation in an on-call rota, approximately 1 in 3 weekends, with on-call cover required on 1-2 weekdays per week
